This is a great article on an extreme parenting model. In it, Amy Chua describes how she basically tortures her kids to practice! She asks, “How do Chinese mothers (and other ridiculously strict parents) stereotypically raise such successful kids?” One very, very strong point: “Chinese parents demand perfect grades because they believe that their child can get them.”
Think about that! Parents that enforce and assist with regular, daily practice can help students succeed and feel proud of their musical accomplishments. Kids gain self-esteem and confidence by working through challenges and not giving up. But, at the end of the day, it’s okay to relax and jam a little, too!
