We’d like to take a few minutes this month and introduce you to 8 year old Mackenna Butterworth. Mackenna has been taking voice lessons with Off The Wall School of Music for about a year now. She also plays the piano.
A couple of her favorite songs are Footprints in the Sand and Broken Glass by Sia. She also like Led Zeppelin — perhaps this is due to her older brother’s influence — but she says that she really likes their voices.
Mackenna dreams of being an Ethnomusicologist when she grows up. (Ethnomusicology is the study of music in its cultural context.) Ethnomusicologists approach music as a social process in order to understand not only what music is but why it is: what music means to its practitioners and audiences, and how those meanings are conveyed. We think that is a fantastic goal, and are sure that Mackenna will be great at it!
When she isn’t making or listening to music, Mackenna attends Meridian School where her favorite subject is math.
She has three cats to keep herself amused: Oba, Mimi, and Kinsale. She also has an imaginary pet pig because her mom won’t let her have one in real life. Apparently, she is gifted with a very vivid imagination too! 🙂
Makenna tells us that her favorite thing about taking lessons at OTW is that she like the teachers and how nice they are. We love having you take lessons here and thanks for making OTW a part of your life!
