General Teaching Style

Some of my favorite teachers that I've learned from over the years took a more modern approach in being quick to flex and adapt to my needs and goals, so this is the teaching style I've chosen to adopt as well. It's more important to me that my students have fun in their learning experience, feel comfortable working on their goals (and even pivoting to new goals if they choose), and become confident in their playing.

Curriculum

I like to tailor my curriculum to the needs and goals of the student and where they're at on their music learning journey. I had some amazing teachers at Cornish College of the Arts who taught me through their teaching methods how effective it can be for a student to have a curriculum tailored to them so we can work on accomplishing their goals together.

Focus & Goals of the First Lesson

Regardless of age, the first lesson will be mostly about assessing where the student is at in their playing and what their goals are so we can figure out the best way to move forward. I'll also ask about any favorite artists, genres and anything else that's inspired them to wanna start on their music journey.

Most Inspirational Music Moments and Experiences

My most inspirational music moment was last summer when I played my first set of local festivals with The Little Lies that had an audience of over 5,000 people. The adrenaline of playing in front of so many people was honestly terrifying at first, but once we got through the rush of the first few songs, it was amazing to see so many people dancing, singing all the words and having a blast with us, and in that moment I got to witness the proof of how music can bring people together regardless of age, gender, race, religion and background. It was a beautiful experience (:
